Yusuff Aina Abogunde

Yusuff Aina Abogunde (b, Nigeria) is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice centers on sculpture, installation, and painting as tools for exploring identity, emotional presence, and collective human experience. From a young age, he embraced art as an anchor for navigating life, and his work now delves into psychosocial realities such as alienation, trust, belonging, and their impact on both the mind and the environment. Drawing from Yoruba philosophy and contemporary social contexts, his practice exists between symbolism, lived experience, and speculative worlds. He is the creator of Eniyan and Voied, two interconnected bodies of work that form the conceptual backbone of his practice. Eniyan—meaning “human being” in Yoruba—is a recurring fictional figure symbolizing collective humanity, resilience, and oneness. Voied explores absence, emotional withdrawal, and the charged spaces created by silence. Through these works, Aina constructs alternative spaces and identities, expanding a constantly evolving visual language he refers to as Ainaism—ethereal cords and motifs derived from his name Àina, a Yoruba term associated with birth and endurance. Aina studied Fine Arts Education at the Federal College of Education, Akoka, graduating in 2018. His works have been exhibited internationally, including ART X Lagos, African Artists’ Foundation (Lagos), Unit Gallery (London), Thinkspace Project (Los Angeles), Eligere Gallery (Seoul), Vins Gallery (Taipei), and Dida Gallery (Abidjan), among others.
